Thanks, JHomes. Your comments make a lot of sense. I think it's worthwhile for Radio to play AJ and Reba a lot more often bc their music is still relevant today, and Lord knows, much better than a lot of these younger one-hit wonders! I do like several of the younger artists that I think are going to be successful in the long run bc they are talented and choose/write really good songs. Whether they will remain relevant or not remains to be seen. But the rest--no. Still don't get the success of Luke Bryan or Sam Hunt. Sam is a good songwriter--no quarrel with that, but on live shows, where's the appeal? He's an eccentric to me, and has zero charisma.
Luke Bryan counts on his good looks and his sex appeal with his pretty white teeth and awkward hip-wriggling (to me) to get him by. His latest song is awful, and it really bugs me bc it shot to #1 so fast and even at all. He's even surpassing Blake, who certainly is more talented and charismatic. But of course, we all know why--chart manipulation, Radio and labels making deals, etc., not to mention all the "incestuous "relationships on Music Row these days. Just look at that long list of Who's Who" in terms of power that BB recently published that include everything from labels (along with their mergers), talent agencies, Radio, etc. and see how they interact behind the scenes. Sam Hunt? He's got a lot of people behind the scenes, i.e. Radio, labels, agencies, etc. despite his public mean-spiritedness and not all that much of an "entertainer." Don't see him as the next "big thing" on the level of a Garth Brooks or a KU who followed soon after Garth for Capitol. But Capitol got smart and learned a lesson by not putting all their eggs in one basket (Garth) and filled their roster with artists like Dierks, LBT, Lady A, etc.
Breaks my heart to see one-hit wonders get pushed to a one-week #1 on BB to the point that artists like Keith & others, who used to stay on top for 5-6 weeks with some great songs, gets only one week, maybe two at the most, on top these days. Guess I'm done with my "rant."
P.S. Forgive any typos--this auto-correct drives me nuts! lol

Carrie finally overtook Chris. Still, album sales these days amaze me when I look back to just a few years ago when sales were so much higher.

Carrie finally overtook Chris. Still, album sales these days amaze me when I look back to just a few years ago when sales were so much higher. Carrie debuted at #1 back in October, but then Chris surged ahead of her after the CMA's last month. Carrie went back to #1 this past week, though, because her album was discounted on iTunes, and also because she performed at the AMA's. The sales forecast for this week has Stapleton returning to #1 by a pretty wide margin. Mark my words, Chris is just getting started. Sales will stay great for him through Christmas, and then he's got 4 Grammy nominations plus a likely performance there...yeah, look for Chris' album to explode big time after the Grammy's.
