So Garth is back on to for a 5th week, interrupted only by Carrie for that one week. Interesting. His album was the only blockbuster one that was released in the final 2 months of the year, so it was to be expected that he would stay at #1 thru the holiday shopping season. Over the next couple of weeks, the album sales chart will see much, much smaller numbers, probably fewer than 10,000 sold for the #1 album at some point during January. Garth could stay on top even with smaller numbers, but since "Mom" is not a big hit at radio (it's continuing to really struggle), he's going to have to rely on word of mouth...and that might not be a good thing, since album reviews for Man Against Machine have been average at best. In order for Garth to get a Platinum album here, he's going to need at least one top 10 hit, imo, and I don't know if "Mom" can get him there. Otherwise I think Garth's album will top out with "average" total sales (for big-name artists in this day and age, anyway) somewhere in the 700-800k range.

Not many artists' albums are going platinum anymore. I think I mentioned earlier that I think Garth's main objective is to break his own record (as well as others) in concert ticket sales. As far as singles on MAM, he needs to release a more upbeat, radio-friendly song like in the "older" (1990s) Garth days. And I say this as a longtime Garth fan from the days when he first became known. Whatever the reason for MAM staying on top of the chart for a few weeks, it must make Garth feel at least some satisfaction on the recording front. I wish KU's album had done that.
He has said he knows it will be hard to compete with the new generation and will take time , so I suspect his own expectations insofar as his new music are realistic.

Just saw on Today Show that Garth's album is #1 for a 6th week (only blip was Carrie's album for one week) and has been certified Platinum. They presented the plaque to him a little while ago. Pretty amazing for an artist who is just getting back into recording and touring, full throttle.

Notice that Jason's album back down to #2 and Garth's (for 7th week in that spot) went back up to #1 on BB this for week ending Jan 24, CCN. Don't get it. What artist's new album do you think will knock Garth off the top spot next? Hopefully, it will be someone with a new album. The top group have already hit #1 but gave it away to someone else.

You are right. Garth Brooks is back on top while Jason Aldean is at #2 (still waiting for sales figures for Man Against Machine). I think the only threats to Brooks coming up might be greatest hits CDs from LeAnn Rimes or Rodney Atkins in February or the Spring Break 7 EP from Luke Bryan in March. Otherwise, it could just be a CD that is currently on the chart.

Would be interested in knowing latest # of copies sold for the top 5 albums. Have somehow misplaced my link to the website that lists that info. Thanks, CCN. ☺️

Thanks, CCN. I'm wondering how long Garth's album can stay there? This is his 7th week ( non-consecutive). Trying to think which A-lister has a new album coming out soon that will land on top.

Don't know what to think about Sam Hunt's album making it to #1. Haven't forgotten his claim that Keith "stole" Cop Car from him the day after an award show, which honored Keith, Sam and his 2 co-writers. Classy thing to do? NOT! Hope someone else regains #1 next week if a new album doesn't do it.

Glad to see that Eric Church's album is now #1. It's a great album. His album isn't #1, but it is in the top 10. Eric's song "Talladega" is #1 at radio.

Thanks, JHomes--must have read the next BB chart. So I deleted my post. No worries! You might have actually predicted the future...after the Grammy's I wouldn't be surprised if Eric's album does move back up to #1 for a little while, especially if he wins the Grammy for Best Country Album. Or if he performs a new single. Or both, haha.

Oh no! Sorry, still haven't forgiven him for his behavior toward Keith the day after that awards show, Not cool, no matter how talented he may be. Will never buy that album or anything else he releases. He owes KU an apology! However, your faithfulness in posting these charts is much appreciated! I do read these charts every week. And I really appreciate you for posting this thread as well as the other threads you keep up to date for us. Love this stuff!

As mentioned on another thread, just getting back in the groove with watching the charts and things have changed a lot over the last couple years. Interesting to read these top ten album charts from week to week. Curious to see how this progresses over the next few months. Thanks, Tami

It's nice to see artists like Blackberry Smoke and Aaron Watson debuting at #1 with their independent albums, especially considering the fact that radio won't play them. If a country-rock group like A Thousand Horses can have a lot of success on country radio, then I don't see why Blackberry Smoke couldn't. The problem is that their last album, The Whippoorwill, came out a couple years too soon. Now they are on Rounder Records, but that is not a label that services country radio.
Before, they had spent some time on Zac Brown's Southern Ground label, and I'm convinced that if they had stayed there, they could have had some big radio success, especially considering that Southern Ground is now partnered with Republic (New York division) and Big Machine (Scott Borchetta's team).
As for Aaron Watson, I haven't heard much of his music but what I have heard was pretty enjoyable, and I do know he is much more of a traditionalist. Still, 26,000 sold in his opening week is incredibly impressive. Some new artists don't sell that much even with a top 20 or even a #1 hit. Watson gets airplay in Texas but that's about it. Perhaps this strong album debut will cause some of the big Nashville labels to take an interest in him. That would not surprise me at all.
