Wow. The success of this didn't seem to last too long. Hope the rest of the era isn't as messy.

Wow. The success of this didn't seem to last too long. Hope the rest of the era isn't as messy. I am a little surprised that this didn't go higher but they picked a bad time to release it and the whole Clear Channel deal just really backfired. Sure, this missed the BB top 10, but it's still gonna be seen as a success--it sold very well digitally and actually got pretty strong callout scores, so listener feedback wasn't the problem. I just think that the BNA/Clear Channel deal hyped it up so much, plus this kinda came outta nowhere at the ACM's, and radio already had its hands full playing big hits like "Fly Over States", "A Woman Like You", "Drink On It", "Over You", "Springsteen", and "Drunk On You". PD's probably just didn't know what to do with this one--they were forced to give this one an artificially big debut that was pointless, because it would've gone up fast on its own without the Clear Channel deal. Once it was there, the hype died down a bit and then they had to wait a little bit for conclusive research to come back, so FLARS slowed while PD's increased plays for songs like DOY and FOS, which had already been proving themselves with listeners for weeks. FLARS was likely more meant to hype up the album and be a rockin' song they can perform together in concert next month. There's also a good possibility that the song was pulled now since Sony knew they weren't going to land Tim McGraw and that could've caused them to move on to "Come Over", which will probably act more like a lead single since it's still out several weeks in advance of Kenny's album (and BNA will probably spin FLARS off as more of a "buzz single").
