Amazing that Eddy Arnold held #1 spot got 21 weeks! But back then many of his songs drew a pop audience as well as country--thinking about Anytime as one example.
Surprised that Conway's Hello Darlin' didn't stay #1 longer than it did. That was his signature song in country music--another artist who left us too soon--should have won more awards than he did. Had he lived longer, he would have racked up more #1s. Never thought his record would be broken, but King George did it and then some.

When you look at the fact he spent 52 weeks (a year) at #1 with his 40 chart toppers, it's amazing. When he went back to MCA in 1986, George Strait was their top male and top artist at the time. I do not find it a coincidence that Twitty and Strait did NOT have #1s together between 1987-1993. The only C.M.A. Awards Twitty won were Vocal Duo with Loretta Lynn between 1972-1975. No SOLO awards there.
