The first time I heard this I heard only the instrumental ending of the song. At first I thought my radio got switched to a rock station, but then I saw Eric's name and realized this is his new single. I have since heard it all the way through and have to wonder what is the point of releasing such a non country song to country radio?Although I lean more traditional I respect the fact that music has to evolve. This just makes too massive of a jump for me personally. It is selling well, but I suspect country radio listeners will be polarized on this one. Will be interesting to see how it performs on the charts.

This one looks like it might not get any higher than where it's at. I think the main purpose was for this to create a 'buzz' and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they pull it and put out a new single either this month or next. Basically, I think it's quite possible that EMI was planning this all along--that they knew "The Outsiders" wouldn't go over all that well with radio, after the Clear Channel debut.
The album has been announced for a February 11th release date, and it is called The Outsiders, but I think the title track is an aberration and not necessarily an indicator for what we should expect the album to sound like. I'm sure the main idea in recording this song was that it would be a great one to do live.
My personal preference would've been for them to do a duel release, and have a different song go to country radio while "The Outsiders" would get sent to Rock radio simultaneously, although I can see why they didn't do it that way. Eric has always had a 'rock' edge to his music, but his core fan-base is found at country radio, not through rock stations.
