Yeah, this one is off to a great start. Hot Shot Debut at #51 on Billboard yesterday, and as noted, yesterday was adds day, so most of the airplay from these new station 'commitments' hasn't even kicked in yet. It looks like radio is really on board with this one.
I really like "Young Love". There were 2-3 songs on his debut that I liked even more, but I liked that album a LOT, and "Young Love" seems like the perfect continuation of Kip's artistic talent...sort of like a 'sequel' to his last couple of singles.

It's had a lot of promotion for the last 2 months. So, I think there was a lot of anticipation for it. Especially considering it's a debut single from a new album and everything. I think people want to see if he can "live up" to his first album. I've heard most of the songs on there and believe me, he definitely will.
I'm still surprised that he a) didn't release another single from Up All Night and b) went with this single as a lead single. IT originally wasn't even supposed to be on this album. He wrote this song years ago with Westin Davis (a very good friend and notable songwriter in Nashville) and then he said he listened to it or whatever (recently) and it took on another life and he wanted to officially record it.
It does't matter to me. I love him and I love anything he'll ever put out. I'm excited to see what this new chapter has in store for him. I'm already so proud of him but I know that even bigger things are coming for him in his near future and I will be there for it every step of the way!!

The Christmas music has definitely slowed down the chart, but everyone should start gaining again tomorrow. The charts are always kinda weird at this time of the year, though, because on New Year's, all of the "lost" airplay on Christmas day gets replaced, so we wind up with a bunch of songs gaining 3-4 million+ on New Year's Eve & New Year's Day, and sometimes we can still get weird updates through the first week or two of January, as a lot of the weekend countdown shows do their year-end countdowns and that affects playlists too. Anyway, Kip's song here is doing great and it will easily weather the holiday slowdown. It is already top 30 on Mediabase!

Awesome!! Jhomes, I know I'm pretty much the only big Kip fan here, but if you could walk me through the basic chart run that would be totally AWESOME!! Just even once a week!

Definitely, myeverythingku! I am going to be following this one pretty closely as we get into January. I think this will go #1 but probably the toughest part of its run will be in January. Kip's gotten off to a very good start but there are so many big names in January (Blake, Eric, Tim, RF, Keith, probably others that I'm missing) that will be sending new tunes up the chart probably even quicker, so that could affect Kip's 'speed', in terms of chart-climbing, that is. But in the end I think this one can handle whatever is thrown its way, and it does sound like another big hit to me. I would bet we'll get the album sometime in the March-May timeframe.

Slow and steady is okay to me!! Hope it goes to number 1 too! He seems to have a solid team with him, so that's always good. He said a few days ago on Twitter that the album will be out at the end of April!!

Any updates for me y'all? It's been another couple weeks, so this song should really be taking off now. The video came out yesterday and it is adorable!! Kip did start off pretty fast, but January hasn't been too kind to him. The song isn't doing bad by any means, but it has really slowed down. It was only natural to assume that Blake Shelton and Eric Church would zoom ahead, but some of the other newer releases are also looking like threats now as well. Kip started off much faster than Brad Paisley, Justin Moore, and Thomas Rhett, but now Brad has re-passed Kip, and both Justin and Thomas are threatening to move ahead, as is Brantley Gilbert. The Thomas and Brantley singles are also selling really well...further evidence that the "bro-country" trend is still alive and well. Kip's song isn't as high on the sales charts as some of those other guys, and I suspect it's because a lot of his early fans were expecting him to go more along the lines of "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck" (thank God he hasn't...) I really enjoy "Young Love", although not quite as much as some of the songs from the debut album. I am just glad that Kip is staying away from the bro-country stuff...I have heard enough songs about beer and trucks and girls now. Personally, the oversaturation of all those "bro-country" songs on country radio has really turned me off of anyone who releases a song like that. It used to be where I'd like a fun song every now and then, but now there are just so many, and there are hardly any actual country songs getting played, or any 'deep' or 'serious' songs, for that matter. Fortunately I've loved everything from Kip (aside from SBAT). He is a gleam of hope, along with people like Charlie Worsham and Easton Corbin. But back to YL...it has slowed a good deal but I am still pretty confident in this one's ability to become a big hit. I would like to see it stay ahead of Justin Moore and Thomas Rhett, but it looks like both of those guys will be passing Kip soon. Maybe he can re-pass them down the line. Brantley Gilbert, Rascal Flatts, and possibly Keith Urban will probably be passing Kip at some point as well, but that's fine. There are enough songs from up ahead that will be dropping off the chart, so Kip should be able to keep moving up (just not quite as fast as the big names...he's getting there, but he's not there yet). Dustin Lynch, Cassadee Pope, and Darius Rucker will all be leaving the chart very soon, followed by FGL's "Stay", The Band Perry, and the Zac Brown Band. I can't imagine Eric Paslay, Jon Pardi, or Scotty McCreery hanging on for much longer either, as all their songs are 40+ weeks old.

Yikes!! Wonder why the slow down. Just so many songs trying to make their way up the charts I guess. I still think a lot weren't thinking that he'd release something like this for a lead single. I do know that he seems to have a really great team surrounding him though. Right now they are putting the majority of their efforts promoting him for the ACM win (as they should be.) I'm sure they are keeping an eye on the situation!! What number is he at right now?!

At #29 on Mediabase as of today...it has been as high as #26, but jostling for position with a lot of others. And right now Brad has surged ahead, Justin Moore is ahead, Rascal Flatts flew past, Thomas Rhett is ahead now as well. Brantley Gilbert is coming up quickly too, as is our own Keith Urban. Probably best to let KU go up first--don't see how Kip will stay ahead of "Cop Car". And I imagine it'll be hard to hold off Brantley as well. The problem is that very few songs have gone recurrent so far this year, but that's going to be changing quickly, much to the relief of Kip and company.
It's been doing a little better on Billboard, where it was #26 on Monday's chart, although it was down from #25 the week before. YL is likely to stay at #26 or #27 on tonight's chart.
Just a rough patch, overall, involving a lot of competition. I think this song will start to pick it up again in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the update!! Maybe for his sake, I'm better off not asking, lol!! It's definitely been a slow start to the new year, after the song had a very nice start in November and December. But things are looking up today. First off, though, a recap of last night's Billboard chart: "Young Love" slipped another spot from 26-27, with a gain of only 252k for the entire week. I would like to see it gain that much per day. Darius Rucker's "Radio" went recurrent and Kip did pass up Dustin Lynch, but 3 other songs passed Kip, with those being the new ones by Rascal Flatts, Justin Moore, and Thomas Rhett. However, like I said, things are looking up today. YL had a big 550k gain on Mediabase, so we could see Kip re-pass Thomas Rhett. Dustin Lynch is still ahead on Mediabase but I'll bet Kip passes him at some point this week. And finally, we are seeing a collapse in the top 10. Three songs are falling really hard (ZBB's "Sweet Annie", FGL's "Stay", and TBP's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely"), and another song--Cassadee's "Wasting All These Tears"--is on the verge of collapse. What this means is that we could have as many as 4 songs going recurrent on next week's Billboard chart, so Kip stands a good chance of moving up closer toward the top 20. Hunter Hayes will have a very high debut with his new song, as that one got played every hour yesterday by Clear Channel stations So, Hunter will probably debut somewhere in the 25-30 range, but of course that song will have the "2nd week hangover" next week, and ultimately I am hopeful that Kip will be able to move up quicker than that one, despite Hunter's fabricated start.

Well Hunter isn't too much of a force to be reckoned with on country radio..so let's hope Kip stays ahead…and has a very solid week from here on out!!
