From the forthcoming Deluxe version of Golden, due out on November 12.
They'd been teasing for a few days now that they would announce something today, and a brand new song did cross my mind, but I'm still a little surprised here.
I absolutely love the album Golden and I think there are a lot of great single choices left on it, so in that sense, this disappoints me a bit. On the other hand, "Compass" is infectious. The stomping, bluegrass-y feel at the beginning of the song is excellent. The chorus is a little overproduced but it's not bad at all. The lyrics are pretty good, too. Other songs from Golden, such as "Better Off Now" and "All For Love" in particular, definitely have hit potential, but I worry that they won't see a future release now.
I'm not usually in favor of deluxe albums, either. However, perhaps this is the 'jolt' of momentum that they need to get back to being the top group at country radio, given the fact that "Goodbye Town" curiously struggled and didn't really connect with fans as much as their singles typically do. A new batch of songs might get Lady A back on more people's minds for the holiday shopping season.

I usually listen to a song before I leave a comment, so I won't speak to the song itself this time as I haven't heard it yet. I am surprised as well that they are going this direction as if the label isn't confident anything of the current album will do well. I am still confused over why Goodbye Town didn't do better, but it's time to move on and I hope this will bring them back to the top.
