This song seems off to a big start. I have only listened to it once and wasnt impressed at all, but can see how it fits in with the current radio trends. Maybe this will grow on me over time.

I like this song well enough, but all I could think of when I listened was "wow...wrong genre." Again, it's not a bad-sounding song at all, but is this seriously the type of music that country radio is embracing? The big conglomerate companies always talk about big ratings for their radio stations and drawing in new listeners, but I can't help but feel like they aren't adding listeners...they are completely replacing their old audience with fans of this "new country music".
This is off to a great start based off their radio tour...it sounds like their harmonies and pop sound are wowing PD's, and they're hitting up all the Clear Channel stations as well. I just feel like, if country radio is going to continue to call itself "country radio", they should be embracing the artists who are staying true to the genre, and some of these new pop/rock acts should be aiming their music elsewhere. But, that only makes too much sense. So many fans of 'pop/rock' (aka the "new country") are already regular listeners of country radio stations, because of the huge shift in style/sound over the last few years. And so to the labels and the big folks in Nashville, when they hear an act like Dan + Shay, it only makes sense to market them to "country" radio.
Sorry, but most of my frustration seems to be coming out in this post. I keep thinking radio will wake up and embrace the more country acts again, but with the condition of the marketplace, I'm starting to think that the pendulum won't swing back the other way. Country music is still being made, but it isn't finding a home on the stations that should be playing it...the stations that call themselves "country" stations. Instead we see Florida Georgia Line, Blake Shelton, Parmalee, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, etc. (and the new artists embracing that style) dominating playlists, and there's little-to-no room for stars like Alan and George, as well as talented artists like Chris Stapleton, Kellie Pickler, Kacey Musgraves, etc. We're also seeing a reduce in airplay for people like Kenny Chesney, Lady A, Thompson Square, Gary Allan, and others, simply because they aren't embracing the pop/rock songs from a select group of songwriters, who can't seem to write about anything except trucks, girls, and beer. The gatekeepers at country radio have become incredibly narrow-minded when it comes to what they 'select' as songs that they'll allow on the radio. Songwriting quality has really fallen off as well. The whole industry is messed up, at least the way I see it, and it's not an easy fix.

This song continues to move up very quickly for a new artist. It's almost Top 30 already. I have heard it several times already, but just can't get into yet. Maybe it will change over time.
