I can't figure out why radio soured on Dierks so quickly. "Bourbon In Kentucky" was flat-out phenomenal, and Dierks was coming off three #1's and a top 5, yet BIK--a lead single--couldn't even crack the top 40? Some radio folks publicly said that they didn't want to play it because it didn't 'fit' in their summer playlists, and that makes me really worried for the future of this format, especially when it comes to corporate radio and its gatekeepers. The fact that they flat-out rejected a brand new tune from someone with so much starpower is alarming to me.
"I Hold On" is equally as good (if not better than) as BIK, and Dierks is back in the top 40, but this one is still moving more slowly. I guess radio saw BIK as a bit 'riskier' (not sure why...sure, it was darker, but it was a great song), but adding IHO seems like it would be a no-brainer. I feel like this will eventually become a big hit but it's still frustrating to me that radio is so slow in picking up such a quality AND radio-friendly song.

I finally heard this on the radio today and it sounded great. I too am puzzled as to why it's moving slow. Maybe it's the competition on the charts right now. Lots of new male singers have been having success the last few years. Dierks has been around for awhile now, although I think he is definitely capable of scoring some big hits yet.

This one is still moving pretty slowly. It was starting to pick up a bit, but now it's slowed down a bit again over the last 2 weeks or so.
I do think Dierks is going to make it, though. I expect this one to be a really big hit in the end, even if it takes a while. If any other song was having such a chart run, I wouldn't feel that confident. But for this particular song, I just think it's going to really catch on and explode pretty soon.
Still, shame on radio for not jumping on this a lot more and a lot sooner. This is a true country song--great story, well-written, great sound and vocals. Dierks is a proven hit-maker, too.
