It seems the third time is the charm for Rhett as he finally gets his first Top Ten song. I think it has a very good chance at becoming his first #1 as well. It is selling really well and has already gone gold and should easily go platinum in the weeks ahead. Although I liked his first two releases better, this one isn't bad, just not as memorable in my opinion.

I actually really dislike this one, but I agree it's well on its way to Platinum status and to #1 on the radio charts. I don't really like his vocals, but my main problem with this is that it's pretty much a straight-up pop song. It's got the bare minimum from a lyrics standpoint, and it's all arranged around catchy "ooohs". There's no substance here. I'm not saying this song is alone in that, because it's got plenty of company in the fluff music / frat-boy-party country sub-genre, but I'm just getting really tired of hearing a lot of those types of songs on country radio. I'm not a fan of this frat boy sub-genre (which includes nearly everything by Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line, among others), because the songs are mostly just loud with lackluster lyrics. That's not my definition of good country music.
Good for Thomas for scoring a big hit here and for getting his album out (comes out 10/29), but this song is definitely a station-changer for me.

Wow...based on the mediabase numbers today this looks like it will get a 3rd week at the top of Billboard. I never expected Luke's song to miss the top of the Airplay Chart even though he has been on top of the Hot Country Songs chart for weeks. If Luke's song doesn't hit the top and it looks highly unlikely, it will make for an interesting footnote. Now I don't care for Luke's song and am ready for it to begin its decent, so I'm not upset over this turn of events. I'm tired of Rhett's song as well, so I am glad to see it is nearing the end of its run as well.

I've never cared for either song, but I think Luke's song would've gotten to #1 on the Billboard Airplay chart had his label not pushed for the Mediabase #1. The way I see it, they pushed for the MB #1 a week too early, and that resulted in Thomas Rhett's label pushing for a 3rd week at #1 on Billboard so that they could get that first official week at #1 on Mediabase. IGLT had been #1 on Mediabase for several days but then Luke Bryan pushed ahead, and I was skeptical that Rhett would make it, but the Valory promo team managed to keep this one gaining even though its bullet was only around +12 (if I remember correctly) when Luke was sitting at #1 on MB.
So, Thomas winds up with a rare 3-week #1 on Billboard (even rarer for an artist's first #1 hit to hold so strongly), but only 1 week at #1 on MB, as Billy and Luke took the 2 weeks prior. Great chart run for this and it's going to cross the 1 million sales mark soon. I haven't heard his full album (out today) but so far the only song of his that I've liked is "Beer With Jesus", and even that one wasn't a huge favorite. So I haven't heard much of the other new stuff but based on stuff I've read, I doubt any of it will be my cup of tea.
