Very good song. Looking forward to this climbing the chart. I want a peak position of #18.... After a very slow climb this song has finally reached #18 and may go a bit higher, at least I hope it will. This is one of my favorites on the chart right now. Top 10 would be great, but that would be a mighty tall order at this point.

After a very slow climb this song has finally reached #18 and may go a bit higher, at least I hope it will. This is one of my favorites on the chart right now. Top 10 would be great, but that would be a mighty tall order at this point. Charlie's catching a big break here. I wonder if the label saw this coming all along, or if it is really just a lucky break? Basically this song had been floating around #21 or #22 for a while, occasionally inching up a spot here and there, but never making any serious headway mostly because bigger names kept sailing right on by. The digital single wasn't selling much, and the album only opened with 6k (and I honestly think it's the best country album in at least 3-4 years) despite glowing reviews. This just isn't the type of music that is popular on country radio right now and so I don't think consumers are too aware of it. BUT, things are changing a bit...with the album release, the label dropped the price of this single to 69cents on iTunes and that kick-started its sales quite a bit. Plus it's been testing pretty well with radio listeners. Now, with the top 20 opening up (we've seen Brett, Carrie, and Sheryl go recurrent...Keith, Easton, Kenny, and Lady A are all on the way off the chart too), Charlie is suddenly moving up in leaps and bounds. If he can hold off Joe Nichols for another week, then Charlie could finish this week at #13 after Easton, Keith, and Kenny all go recurrent. These long chart runs are always hard to figure out but I think it gets to the point where the label is thinking "Hey, we've been with this song since January, we've invested a lot of time and resources in it, but one slow-climbing single doesn't make our client a big name...if we give up our top 20 spot now, it might be another year 'til we get back there"...so what happens is that they just keep promoting and promoting away until radio is ready to drop the song. We're seeing that with the Craig Campbell song right now, too. Obviously the big downside for these artists is that they can't release very many singles per year or per album, but sometimes the long-charting hits can really make a lasting impact. The downside for the big names is that they don't have the luxury of climbing slow and waiting for the top 20 or top 10 to open up...we just saw that with Kenny and Lady A, where they got 'squeezed' out. This song is going to keep getting more and more spin conversions, so it really wouldn't be a stretch anymore for Charlie to make the top 10. His chances are going up by the day.

I hope he does make the top 10 with this one soon. I'm eager to hear what his next single choice off Rubberband will be because that one is going to be a bigger hit. I love this album.

For the last few weeks this was showing promise for possibly making it to the Top 10, but now it has really slowed almost to a stop. Maybe it will rally, but it appears it might have gotten as high as it will go. Hopefully, this success will lead to more with the next single.

Maybe it will rally, but it appears it might have gotten as high as it will go. Hopefully, this success will lead to more with the next single. My vote is for "Want Me Too" as the next single; I think that has the potential to be a big hit, possibly a #1, if radio sees the talent that this guy has. Rubberband is one of my favorite albums in years and I don't say that too often. As for "Could It Be", it's definitely slowed down a bunch again; however, it did rally a bit in today's Mediabase update. Still, it lost 155k last week on Billboard, slipping from 13-15, and there are several songs just below it that are gaining more quickly. Keith/Miranda and Joe Nichols moved ahead and they will obviously get any available top 10 spots before Charlie can. And, while Charlie's song is rather old, Craig Campbell, as crazy as it seems, is moving up more quickly now despite having spent more than a year on the chart. Parmalee is also really moving up, so by the time enough songs drop out of the top 10, Craig and Parmalee (among others) may have passed Charlie and knocked him back farther down the line of people waiting to get into the top 10. Summarizing: I think Charlie's current peak of #13 may be as high as he gets, but I can't say I'm disappointed. I actually didn't think this song would get that high in the first place. A #13 peak is definitely a strong one for a new artist, and hopefully the next single does even better. Charlie is probably my favorite new artist.
